Vel Saties Posted November 7, 2024 · Member Posted November 7, 2024 I would like to point out that in the very recent Artemide auction nr. LXII this interesting hybrid decanum (?) INVICTA ROMA / monogram of RAVENNA appeared at lot number 589. This coin is cited as far as I know only in the repertoire by Ladich (*) no. 52 p. 72 which, however, does not provide weights. Considered R3. Apparently it should be a decanummus if we consider the types of obverse and reverse but if we have to base ourselves on the weight of 1.16 gr if we were to compare this issue with that of the deca of Ravenna turreted (ca. 2.8 gr) or those invicta roma / atalarico stante (ca. 2.7 gr) it should be a pentanummus. THIS IS THE AUCTION HOUSE'S DESCRIPTION: Ostrogothic Italy, Athalaric (526-534). AE Decanummium. Obv. INV[ICTA R]OMA. Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Roma right. Rev. Ravenna monogram within wreath; cross above. COI 86 (obv.) /78a (rev.); MIB 78 (obv.) /72a (rev.) (Rome); Ranieri 266 (reverse). AE. 1.16 g. 14 mm. RRR. Extremely rare, few specimens known. Enchanting deep green patina. Listed only in Ladich 'Monete dei Re Ostrogoti in Italia'. Good VF. https://www.biddr.com/auctions/artemideaste/browse?a=5067&l=6166698 (*) MARIO LADICH, 2017, MONETE DEI RE OSTROGOTI IN ITALIA, DIANA EDITRICE, SATURNIA. 6 Quote
