I never knew gladiators fought on the rim of the Colosseum like that...

As an aside, do you think this was tooled?

It's got to be, hasn't it? The rims are corroded yet the fields are as smooth as butter and the fine detail is pristine. Should look like this.

Why spend so much money  when you can buy this fantastic replica

That's  why I console myself with  my chocolate decadrachms. And as a bonus, as they get mouldy they acquire what I describe as an old cabinet patina.

I would rather blow 100K on this coin....

Gorgeous coin! But I initially read the obverse legend on the left as LMAO.

@Ryro, did you report this using the "Report error" link? If so, your message went directly to NAC, not to us (biddr).

For those who say this medallion is tooled, what is your definition of tooling and can you illustrate or describe where exactly you see tooling? My personal definition of tooling is the enhancement / addition of detail to a coin, be it by cutting into the patina or metal, or smoothing down the fields of a coin to make lines look clearer.

The edges still show parts of the original encrustation and therefore appear less smooth. The cuprite encrustations on Alexander's hair, as well as on the left side of the field on the reverse, IMO show perfectly that the medallion has not been smoothed (or only very very slightly). These usually can't be removed and you either leave them, as here, or you smooth them down.

I don't see any tooling, just an expertly cleaned medallion in great condition.
