rasiel Posted November 2, 2024 · Member Posted November 2, 2024 Another spendy month dammit.... next year I'll pace myself. I know I will. Pretty sure. Share newcomers to your collection :- ) Rasiel The only 'Phil' in the Byzantine series. In his short time on the bench he... looked after his curly locks. Is he winking at us? From the tail end of the Byzantine empire, a John No. 8 half-stav. These go in the so crude they're cool category! Valentinian III's daddy. Barely left a mark in the history books. Left quite an ugly dent on the bank statement though. Also expensive. Should've used Philippicus's hair stylist. Carus was married to Magnia Urbica though most sources still mention her being his son Carinus's wife. Whoever was my underbidder on this Theodore aspron trachy, sorry man. You put up a noble fight but it was no contest. I was prepared to go to five figures on this one because it's so... shiny! It's okay, I'm only planning to hold on to it for another year or two before I send it back into the auction circuit ;-) Basil I. I wonder what he thought of being named after a condiment. Speaking of bummer names, Pulcheria here has it ten times worse for her name in Spanish sounds very similar to shit. Not just your ordinary turds however. Oh, no no no. Specifically, the word has gained the unique modern connotation of dog shit that you've stepped in and are desperately trying to scrape off against the sidewalk as you gag. Wow. The scowl on her face is understandable. Let's finish with this Martinian. To the layman's eye essentially indistinguishable from other, dime-a-dozen LRBC but to rare emperor chasers like me a thing of beauty, of awe even. Took me a few tries to get a good photo. Took me a few tries to win one too. Can always count on stiff bidding for these. 16 1 3 1 2 1 2 1 1 2 Quote
maridvnvm Posted November 2, 2024 · Member Posted November 2, 2024 October was a lean month for me. I am trying to develop some discipline, trying to focus on my core collections. I only bought one coin. I have broken my own rules already and have bought four coins this month already with only one being targeted at my core collection. 1 Quote

ela126 Posted November 2, 2024 · Member Posted November 2, 2024 @rasiel that’s a heck of a list again. Some super impressive pieces. I’ll have to see some of your old posts and see about your photography, the John VIII picture you have is considerably better than what I was about to get. ill have to get a picture together of my October. Was a decent month as well, I think 10 pieces or so. 1 Quote

Amarmur Posted November 2, 2024 · Member Posted November 2, 2024 My October was rather spendy as well. The Nero As was a decent dent on my wallet. A lot of interesting coins I added to my collection. A lot of the coins are nice mostly Roman. The Lucilla denarius, Roman Egypt coins, Eyes to Heaven Constantine, and Nero coin are my favorites. 13 Quote
Benefactor Ancient Coin Hunter Posted November 2, 2024 · Benefactor Benefactor Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) Superb additions. We just closed on a second home purchase in the Bay Area yesterday. I'm wondering if what you spent in October was close to the house price. Edited November 2, 2024 by Ancient Coin Hunter 2 2 1 Quote
Qcumbor Posted November 2, 2024 · Supporter Posted November 2, 2024 Fantastic acquisitions @rasiel Not much here in october, but a major acquisition for me : a denier tournois for François II de Montpensier, Prince of the Dombes Principality : Only two examples are known to exist to authors, one at the BnF, the other at Lyon museum. I spotted the following three years ago in a fellow collector's collection who didn't want to sell it back then. He contacted me three weeks ago, asking whether I would still be interested in acquiring it. Guess what ... I was François II de Montpensier (1582-1592), Denier tournois type 3 - 1585 Atelier de Trévoux + F • D • BOVR[B • P • D • D]OMBES • M, buste cuirassé à gauche + DENIE • T[OVR]NOIS • 1585 • deux lis et une brisure (5 sur 2 en fin de date) 1,25 gr - 18 mm - 7 heures Ref : Divo Dombes # 83, CGKL # 722, PA # 5138v https://www.colleconline.com/fr/items/354105/monnaies-europe-medievale-france-feodales-francois-ii-de-montpensier-1582-1592-denier-tournois-type-3-1585 Q 4 Quote
