antwerpen2306 Posted November 6, 2024 · Member Posted November 6, 2024 Here is my coin : 19 mm , 3,14 gr , as 6 uur, RRC362/1. TThe different controle letters on the obverse spell the name of the mintmaster C.LIME(TA)NUSCF.. every control letter has more than 1 die. The dog on the reverse died of sadness, seeing his boss Odysseus back after 20 years, but Odysseus, arriving as a beggar to rest unknown had to keep this attitude. The reverse makes an allusion on the statement of the mintmaster he was a descent of Telegonos, the son of Odysseus and Kirke, a divine sorceress who received Odysseus and his compagnions on her island. She transformated the compagnions in pigs and lived with Odysseus. He stayed about a year on the island and made a son Telegonos by her. Once adult, Kirke charged her son to search his father, once arrived on Ithaka, he killed his father Odysseus without knowing who he was. After conciliation with Telemachos, the other son of Odysseus with his wife Penelope, he married Penelope and Telegonos married Kirke. Later Telegonos founded Praeneste and Tusculum. The history of Telegonos is described in 2 books by Eugamon of Kyrene (6° century BC) in his work Telegonia. Of this coin, there has been a new coinage by Traianus, Ric II, 780 ( coin in the Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin). reverse : IMP CAES TRAIAN AVG GER DAC P P REST C MAMIL LIME TAN : Imperator Caesar Traianus Augustus Germanicus Dacicus Pater Patriae Restituit Caii Mamilii Limetani. 5 1 Quote
