Lelouch Posted October 13, 2024 · Member Posted October 13, 2024 I recently (mostly) finished my website https://www.lelouch.net/, which is a collection of my coins. I am curious to see anyone else's, if they have them one, as I recently saw @Sulla80's recent post with https://www.sullacoins.com and in general other recent posts. I really like http://artemis-collection.com/. I'm not sure if he is one here but he is on the reddit. His website is great and especially the pictures are incredible detailed and high resolution. I feel like all auction houses need more detailed images. I also pretty much copied the filter layout. Feel free to share yours. 14 1 1 Quote

Phil Anthos Posted October 13, 2024 · Member Posted October 13, 2024 Good thread. I do believe that a well constructed gallery/website can be an excellent resource. Hopefully mine is that... https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/index.php?cat=21312 Hit "Position +" to put everything in the correct order. ~ Peter 9 Quote

I like what you've done with yours as well, some cool ideas with the design of the filters and drop-downs etc. Out of curiosity, do you have some frontend experience? I like the "article" pages you have for the coins too, such as how you have the provenance table and additional photos etc. I've been meaning to add provenance info and also a section for notes on specific coins to my version of your "article" page but haven't gotten around to it yet. 2 1 Quote

AncientJoe Posted October 13, 2024 · Member Posted October 13, 2024 My main gallery is here: https://www.colosseocollection.com/p444364358 It's woefully out of date with writeups, details, and missing some coins... a project for a rainy day some day! 10 4 1 Quote
Spargrodan Posted October 13, 2024 · Member Posted October 13, 2024 I'm working on a hobby project that I aim to fill with historical and numismatic content, focusing on the Hellenistic era. It's quite an ambitious project, but it's mainly for my own enjoyment, as I love combining design with my passion for numismatics and history. Hopefully, it will be useful to others once it has more content, but I'm happy either way since it's something I do primarily for myself. The website is currently in the design process, so there's no content yet. https://www.perseustimes.com/ 7 Quote

red_spork Posted October 13, 2024 · Member Posted October 13, 2024 My main website is https://gallery.respublicacoins.com which is both a gallery and includes some longer discussions on select coins, along with scans of ephemera and catalog photos of my provenanced coins. I also have a blog but haven't posted anything in a long while, though I am working on a couple of different write-ups that may or may not ever get posted. 8 1 Quote

It's a little crude but attempts to show some of the history & timeline. coinsandhistory.com 4 1 Quote
Lelouch Posted October 14, 2024 · Member Author Posted October 14, 2024 (edited) Admittedly, not my images. I just used the lot images, which I probably shouldn't do since I know like coinarchives or acsearch generally need to get permission to use images. Hopefully I won't get sued 😅, but I think it's relatively okay for personal use. I think pretty much everyone else who posted a link to their website took their own images. Shout out to them as well, all their photos are great, the auction houses are slacking in comparison. 22 hours ago, Gallienus said: pure html. It's a little crude It's definitely not! Honestly the most useful websites that have the most info are the "older" looking ones like WildWinds. I used React for this as well, but likely an actual CMS like WordPress would be better. Mostly just looked at tutorials, so while my website does look nice - it is pretty much just the default modern design layout and components. There is a library called framer-motion for the animations as well. Maybe a helpful tip for anyone who does in the future. One of the hardest thing's to do if you want to put your coins in a database is to figure out what fields you need. I managed to skip most of this problem by just copying the data format of Numista via their api. Their data is already all well formatted and consistent as it will make sure the names and everything else are the exact same and it already has most of the fields you probably want. It also helps everyone else as I make sure to add or update the type on Numista before importing it. Edited October 14, 2024 by Lelouch Quote
Benefactor KenDorney Posted October 14, 2024 · Benefactor Benefactor Posted October 14, 2024 In the early days of web pages I built a site for my collection, but its been gone for many years. It also reminds me that I'd like to do it again, but I simply dont have the time to design anything. Is anyone aware of any generic type templates that might be easy to use? 1 Quote

I'm guessing, that many of the above coin collection web pages were built, by using web sites, which allow you to create your own web page, with minimal effort, and no computer programming, and no HTML computer programming. In fact, Nvmis Forvms may have been built, using such a web site. I'm guessing, that there are various such web sites, which allow varying amounts of customization, for a web page. But, I don't know the specific names of such web sites, except for the one I used, to create my own web page, but that was long ago (2001), and I eventually got rid of my web page after a few years, and it was a very simple web page. The web site was called "Network Solutions". But, there are probably many newer, better web sites, for web page creation. Edited October 15, 2024 by sand Quote

You can make a website in a day and get all the amenities for search engine optimization, marketing campaigns, databases, analytics, ecommerce selling features and more for a modest price these days from companies like Wix.com (the one I used) and WordPress mentioned above. There are lots of other options - IMO, with the prices for the services there is little incentive to build from the ground up. 2 Quote

My original site just used WordPress templates. Each coin had its own page. It was trivial to setup. That was when I had < 100 coins, but my collection's grown enough now that everything is data driven. When I buy a new coin I just enter it into my database, click a button, and everything's updated. If I want to change the look of things, I just modify my templates, click a button and everything is updated. 2 1 Quote
