Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Posted October 11, 2024 Was there some sudden damnatio memoriae upon the Aaron Berk youtube channel? Youtube often acts for no reason, but I don't recall anything too out there happening in the latest one. 1 Quote
AncientJoe Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Posted October 11, 2024 Very strange - they aren't showing up for me either and visiting a known link to one of the episodes results in this message: Hopefully it's just a random error and not some erroneous banning by Youtube. 2 Quote
Postvmvs Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Posted October 11, 2024 (edited) The channel just crossed 100K subscribers, which is an insane number for a niche channel getting a few hundred views per video. Perhaps the channel got banned for artificially increasing their subscribers. Edited October 11, 2024 by Postvmvs 1 1 5 Quote
Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Author Posted October 11, 2024 Yes, I first noticed that screen on another post. A youtube search of the channel turns up nothing. Quote

Limes Posted October 11, 2024 · Supporter Posted October 11, 2024 It hope it gets fixed. I enjoy the show. I saw a new episode posted, and when I clicked on the link, I was shown the same message as AncientJoe. Is anyone a member on their Facebook page? Is something mentioned about the situation, there? 1 Quote

John Conduitt Posted October 11, 2024 · Supporter Posted October 11, 2024 The bot may have simply looked at the subscriber volume as mentioned above. Average subscriber to view ratios: 1,000 subscribers: Expect around 140 views per video 100,000 subscribers: Expect between 12-15,000 views per video So they should be getting 12,000 views per video, not 1,200. 5 Quote

Kali Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Posted October 11, 2024 Those "bots" are terrible. It's just as bad, if not worse on Instagram. Simple comments get flagged by the mod bots and you get comment ban suspensions or account bans and it's brutal to get an account back on instagram. There are loads of posts made daily on the instagram sub-reddit over it. 1 Quote
Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Author Posted October 11, 2024 Mike Nottelman mentioned on another forum that it was likely due to the new short segments, excerpted from the podcasts, and that one, taken out of context, was verging on NSFW, and was flagged by the bots. One of my favorite youtubers makes jokes that would make John Waters blush, and nothing more serious happens than demonetization. It's strange how these bots work... Quote

Ocatarinetabellatchitchix Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Posted October 11, 2024 (edited) Just received this: « Thanks for your concern. Youtube's bot took down the entire page for a short clip on the Roman erotic tokens for nudity. We are appealing to an internal team, and I am told it will take time but should be put back up as the nudity was educational not sexual in nature. Not sure why they would not just take down the one video and not entire page, but it is what it is. We are on top of it and working hard to get it fixed. Thanks again for your concern and support. » Aaron Edited October 11, 2024 by Ocatarinetabellatchitchix 6 Quote

Benefactor rNumis Posted October 11, 2024 · Benefactor Benefactor Posted October 11, 2024 Unrelated, but archive.org is down as they work to address some large DDoS attack. Their X feed said it could be down for days, but not weeks. 2 1 2 Quote

I think his originates from a Roman cartoon, which I remember seeing once on public access. The guy was the butler or servant. Quote
Victrix Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Posted October 11, 2024 Either way it's in really bad taste to buy subscribers and they clearly did. They should be punished for that in my opinion even if it may be an unpopular one. Plenty of coin youtubers who work hard for their channels.🤷♂️ 6 Quote

Although "sexual" in nature it's not any more offensive" then other coins or art depicting a nude scene. And the video in question has been on youtube for a while so someone must have recently filed a complaint. 2 Quote

I wasn't implying the views were, I was suggesting the subscribers were. It's very odd when a channel quadruples its subscriber count in a few days and sees no increase in engagement in its videos Doesn't mean the subscribers were bought per se, I've heard it can happen if you pay for YouTube Promotion and target certain countries that are cheap to advertise in. Suffice to say, a conversion rate of one new subscriber for every 5-7 views is extremely high so something weird is going on. If you look at channels with a similar number of subscribers and rapid view growth from a particular video going viral, the conversion rate is more like one new subscriber for every 100-200 views. Of course I can't say what's happening, only those with access to the account will really know, I can only say what it looks like from the outside and something doesn't add up. You can probably tell from your channel statistics where these subscribers are coming from and if they're watching for long or if they stop watching after 30s or so. 4 1 Quote

One wonders if YouTube actively boosts subscriber counts with bots post Promotion utilization to make the account holder believe it was worth the spend. I miss the old YouTube... 3 1 Quote

For example the Ancient Coin Podcast was getting about the same number of comments when it had just a few of us reported to be watching (maybe 2k) to now when there are 50 times more subscribers. I think their podcasts are excellent, not knocking the quality - just the stats are weird. Quote
