I made an offer:

Sorry xxxxx, 8bk4g44 has turned down your offer of US $1.00. Make another offer before the item ends.

You still have 4 offers left. You could gradually increase to $5 if you’re really interested.

I just bid 2.5 USD and was shot down. Someone is either delusional or this is not an auction for a Roman coin. Maybe dirty deeds done dirt cheap, well not so cheap.

+$4 and change to ship a $20,000 item...

😂😂😂

Either include shipping or charge the buyer $250 for overnight plus insurance, or use a courier.

In his relisting, the seller says:-

Private person sale very ancient coin, I don't know what period. Perhaps priceless!
Shipping method: I will bring directly to you the ancient coin.

Priceless indeed.

English perhaps not his first language? For priceless read valueless? And the poor chap won't be able to find your address. I can only say fair play to him if someone with that much spare cash is that stupid!

I see this kind of thing on eBAy all the time. I always wonder if its a sale for drugs or something else illegal.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment. Money laundering and pay tax if you are found on a “legitimate “ transaction .Saves you from jail and next weeks takings pay the tax.

You could probably keep this up all day! I have to wonder if anyone in the history of ebay has ever successfully sold anything like the examples posted in this thread at the asking price or anywhere even close to it.

I am sure they have @DonnaML these are criminals not collectors .We don’t see the crazy transactions that “disappear “ and if sold off eBay they have established value by publication.

Come on now...these are just not very smart people that have an ancient coin that they think must be worth a lot of money since it is so old. No need to think it is anything nefarious...it is just a combination of greed and stupidity. At the end of the day, it does not hurt them to throw a price out there; they are clueless and just hoping something will stick to the wall. This is very common on eBay and, frankly, not even worth talking about.

I agree with you that there are stupid people who consider any old coin as valuable but I should clarify that my comments refer to common modern issues appearing at crazy prices and then disappearing. I'm pretty certain that some of this is money laundering as it is inexplicable that a "pocket change" coin could sell at $10,000 unless of course there are some equally stupid people with more money than sense. The coin in the OP more than likely fits your criterion. This is the sort of coin I am referring to,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364838820308?_skw=£1&itmmeta=01J9ZWTPXAX5SAEZYBX4MTS032&hash=item54f21699d4:g:X80AAOSwvzpmGTMc&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKkP1rhNGCtRuWSanW3IQoi6N8wa5ONibzH44jAvQEBJb33twbldY5sAmlfgFxv2ghbFgUZDRlcdFWWyqlcKjzvHY4QBkTWge0ZF5ZzPn0aMC61sok2bv%2FIX8n1kqXe1fMDJdqgqzdGKnwB%2ByPjVvCgHnJxlR87e7N9pYX175xjh5GQmWVXcQg39An5r9D7kWTVueeZK8wQEqgH%2FtZae6ww3cwirxrA9wFpe9aWOuIOdN%2B2qBb36aKrkMxfTuI9i6PsBTZuuW9xOT4Xs%2BmXXUkeb|tkp%3ABk9SR9zu6vzPZA

I also considered that perhaps putting a crazy price on something could be an attractant to direct you to other listings by the seller but so many of these , as is this one, are the only listing and the seller does  not post feedback. Of course all of this is hypothetical @Victor_Clark and we will never know the motive so you are probably right, not worth talking about. The OP was humorous however and worthy of response.
