rasiel Posted October 9, 2024 · Member Posted October 9, 2024 Was a spendy month for me (unfortunately) but I did pick up some rarer Romans. How about you? Rasiel A not great, not terrible Caligula denarius Agrippa's one and only Roman imperial coin is fortunately very common. Bill was a reasonable $160 for this one. Petronius Maximus goes in the Pantheon of the Shadow Emperors. Damn thing cost as much as a new car but goes nowhere. Ugh. Finally got me a decent Gordian III. About time! Not much to look at this Domitius Domitianus follis but the tab was relatively modest and I get to cross off another usurper! 18 1 7 1 Quote

Rasiel A not great, not terrible Caligula denarius You may not have noticed, but I believe I was your under-under-underbidder on that one... Congratulations! The portrait of Caligula is excellent. And I think that the price was good, but I couldn't go higher. Also, congratulations on your Patroneus! It’s certainly a great deal, though not something I could afford without taking another loan on my apartment. Otherwise, September was a very successful month for me. My September wins: Macrinus for $472 Domna for $625 Very rare tetradrachm of Caracalla, wearing his paludamentum, for $333 And there is one more... But I will wait until I received it before I present it. Edited October 9, 2024 by Salomons Cat 16 5 Quote

-monolith- Posted October 9, 2024 · Member Posted October 9, 2024 A few of my September - October purchases. Some coins to fill gaps and a lot of interesting mint errors. 11 Quote

ela126 Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Posted October 11, 2024 September was pretty good for my Byzantine collection. Slowly transitioning more to mid and later empire, but can’t stay away from the early stuff as well. Sorry for the somewhat lazy picture and no description, only get fleeting moments between work and the kids to share. Most of these have been shared on FB but don’t want to deprive the forum! 8 2 Quote
Postvmvs Posted October 11, 2024 · Member Posted October 11, 2024 @ela126 Nice coins. This one stands out to me: A 10n of Heraclius minted at Carthage? The portrait is interesting. 4 Quote

The portrait is interesting. Good eye, yes that is a Revolt Deca, so Heraclius is pictured, but uncrowned and the legend is the ERAVLI CONSULI. I bought off eBay dirty, but not cheap, and luckily it was just hard dirt, with lots of good details underneath. 1 1 Quote

I was going to say the exact same thing: it's amazing that you were able to get an Agrippa in such nice condition for only $160! I paid essentially the same price ($162 plus shipping) on VCoins for my Agrippa as four years ago, and although it's perfectly OK, I don't think it compares to yours. 4 1 Quote

Benefactor Ancient Coin Hunter Posted October 11, 2024 · Benefactor Benefactor Posted October 11, 2024 (edited) Anything around $160 seems to be a great deal for one of these. I've only seen a couple in "Good" (read poor) condition for around this price. Nice finds @CPK and @DonnaML! I don't have an Agrippa yet and an example is on my list of remaining coins I need to get.
