Robi Posted September 30 · Member Share Posted September 30 Coins of Philip I from SC seria Antioch bronze coins are some scarce. Here three of them with Philip as Augustus, and one Antioch bronze coin exceptionally from outside the series, although it also has the letters sc ;), but I was charmed by the representation of Apollo with a lyre, and it is also quite rarely seen in trade. Have You some Philip I Antioch bronzes? Robert 4
hotwheelsearl Posted October 1 · Member Share Posted October 1 The "standard" SC coins are pretty common and relatively low value unless in exceptional condition. The Apollo one is definitely a monster! The Tyche temple and Tyche bust are two more very common examples.

Benefactor Ancient Coin Hunter Posted October 2 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted October 2 The Philip bronze pieces from Antioch might be harder to find than the billon tetradrachms
Al Kowsky Posted October 3 · Member Share Posted October 3 I don't have any bronze coins of Philip I, from Antioch-Syria, but I've got a number of his tetradrachm issues, pictured below are two of my favorites ☺️. This is only the 2nd example of the coin type known. The other example from Prieur's collection was auctioned by CNG about 5 years ago & is pictured in RPC VIII. My coin is a double die match to the Prieur coin ☺️. https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/type/29163 1
Robi Posted October 3 · Member Author Share Posted October 3 @Al Kowsky Due to the fact that I focus on bronze coins, I have only few tetradrachms from Antioch, but looking at your beautiful tetradrachms, I want to have one of Philip I! 🤗 Congratulations on rarity and beautiful condition!

Robert, Some of my best examples have come from CNG auctions, so check their listings frequently 😉. Prices have soared after the Covid 19 pandemic but it's still possible to find choice examples at a reasonable price. The example pictured below has been in my collection over 50 years & started my fascination with tetradrachms from the Roman Levant. The finest portrait coin of Philip I cost me $75 at a coin show in Rochester, NY about 20 years ago & is pictured below ☺️. I had the coin slabbed by NGC & sold it at a Heritage auction about 6 years ago, where it fetched $312. Today it would sell for considerably more 😉.
