The Ultimate Guide to Byzantine Istanbul / Constantinople: My Recent Vacation

Very good - thanks!   I was there at the beginning of August for 3 nights.   As I recall, the non-Islamic part of the coin collection in the Archaeological Museum has 230,000 coins - only a small fraction on display, but including some nice Pantikapaion coins.

Cats are certainly well treated - this one seems to be a ticket inspector.

Cold and wet here now - I'm taking the week after next off and trying to decide where to go - somewhere warm and sunny 🙂

ATB,
Aidan.

Fantastic presentation and photos. The Archaeological Museum has an extensive numismatic collection (as expected).

Sadly, the Archaeological Museum of Istambul is on my black list of museums preventing the public from learning the content of their numismatic collections. They did not just refuse providing information about coins, but did this in rather rude and arrogant way.

Cool video, I was just there two days ago. My 5th visit but I want longer there because I am seeing it as a cruise ship stop. We just overnighted. It has changed alot since covid, especially Hagia Sophia becoming an active Mosque again..

Here are some pics from the visit. In Athens today, fly home tomorrow.

I added some relic photos from the Islamic treasures at the palace, Moses staff and John the Baptist arm and portions of skull.

One more to add, they now have it covered but you can still see it on the second floor of the Hagia Sophia. The largest mosaic of the virgin.
