Al Kowsky Posted September 18 · Member Share Posted September 18 For the last two days I've been following this auction, & getting steamrolled on my bids 😒. Two unassuming Indian rupees knocked me out of my chair 😮! This dated AD 1711 rupee had an estimate of of $1,500, it sold for $49,000 including buyers premium 🙄. https://auctions.cngcoins.com/lots/view/4-EBXOI6/india-independent-states-sikhs-khalsa-fauj-baba-banda-singh-bahadur-1670-1716-ar-rupee-25mm-1198-g-6h-amritsar-mint-dated-year-2-ad-1711-vf This AD 1837 dated rupee also had an estimate of $1,500, it was slabbed by NGC AU58. It sold for $61,250 including the buyers premium 🙄. https://auctions.cngcoins.com/lots/view/4-EBXOI8/india-independent-states-sikh-empire-temp-ranjit-singh-vs-1858-1896-ad-1801-1839-ar-rupee-25mm-1107-g-7h-issue-of-hari-singh-nalwa-peshawar-mint-dated-vs-18941894-ad-1837-ngc-au-58 5 1 4 3

Either it's fake or worth a lot of money. The estimate of $1,500 is just bizarre.
CPK Posted September 18 · Supporter Share Posted September 18 Well...that was disappointing. Ever since the auction came out, I had been really hoping to be able to win a coin from the Kenneth Harl collection. He's my favorite Great Courses professor and I've listened to countless hours of his lectures - plus, it was a good chance to add a nice Anglo-Saxon coin to my collection. I bid live on about a dozen different coins, but unfortunately kept getting outbid each time. 🙁
Bonshaw Posted September 18 · Supporter Share Posted September 18 I picked up a dream coin from SNG Stancomb, but paid twice what it went for on Roma in 2021, so maybe I'm the sucker. I really wanted it, and I may not get another chance, and at least it was not one of those 5 figures things like these rupees. There was a short bidding frenzy, which made me very uncomfortable, but it ended before my planned limit. Not an impulse buy.

I fell short on bidding for 5 items from that collection, and was the underbidder on two. Strong money was evident for these.

Croatian Coin Collector Posted September 19 · Member Share Posted September 19 https://auctions.cngcoins.com/lots/view/4-EBXNW9/anonymous-211-208-bc-av-60-asses-14mm-336-g-11h-rome-mint-ef The estimate for the above coin was 4000 USD, I put in a maximum bid of 5000 USD, and it ended up hammering for 13000 USD!
