Mesopotamia, Edessa, under Elagabalus and Rhaesena under Severus Alexander. Ae 23 mm. 7.5 gm. Obv: Laureate bust of Elagabalus right, over struck with laureate bust of Severus Alexander right. Rev: Tyche seated left, Larger Tyche, seated left, holding eagle. Very unusual and rare overstrike, with much of the original coin still visible. Perhaps a shortage of coinage in Rhaesena in 232 required this coin from Edessa to be re-struck?
