airhead1983 Posted September 14, 2024 · Member Posted September 14, 2024 Happy Saturday, Everyone! It has been far too long and I feel terrible about that. 😞. It’s been an odd year so far and has been exhausting. But, a few weeks ago, the highlight of my year happened! @Ryro held and awesome contest that featured the coolest ancient coins owned by our friends. @Qcumbor won with his amazing Commodus sestertius found by his grandpa. Qcumbor choose to gift me with one of the coins Ryro offered. Qcumbor also generously gifted me a coin from his own colllection. Here are the amazing coins I now cherish in my collection: Antoninus Pius Rome mint, 149-150 AD With a flipping elephant on the reverse! 🐘 I love this coin 😃 Along with the elephant, Ryro sent two extra goodies! Gallienus With Uberitas on the reverse Neat coin! My first Gallienus Here is a coin that’s been completely worn, but, has a really cool counter mark. A bust, I think! Definitely cool! Here is the coin Qcumbor sent me: Theodosius Antioch mint, 392-395 Emperor on the reverse holding a globe and standard. The really cool thing about this coin is that it has the oldest pedigree in my collection - back to 1984 - the year after I was born! Our good friend, @Alwin owned it before Qcumbor bought it. This is an amazing haul and I am so incredibly grateful that you all remember me, even if I don’t post for months because I’m just too mentally and emotionally exhausted. You are all great friends and it means a lot! After receiving these amazing gifts, I bought my one and only coin of the year. I had just finished dog sitting and had a little extra cash. So, I’m hoping it’ll come in sometime this week. It’s way out of my collecting area, but, Marc Breitsprecher’s description made it impossible to pass up. Lol I hope you all have an amazing weekend! Never change who you are because, even if there’s a chance anyone may not think so, your presence here makes a difference, especially to a sometimes lonely 40 yr old woman sitting in her apartment in a small town in Ontario, Canada. Take care!! Erin 😃 21 3 3 1 1 3 Quote
Ryro Posted September 14, 2024 · Supporter Posted September 14, 2024 (edited) Wahoo! So happy they made it to you safe and sound. And I appreciate the love filled thread. You are awesome! I still can't wait to see your first purchase of the year!? Ps, it took me a while to identify that coin, but it's possible. *HINT: The countermark is not of a bust. But if you told it that it may saya, "Who". Edited September 14, 2024 by Ryro 4 1 Quote

Heliodromus Posted September 14, 2024 · Member Posted September 14, 2024 The neat Antoninus Pius elephant type (MVNIFICENTA AVG) dates to 148-149 AD. It's celebrating games that Pius held in that year to celebrate the 900th anniversary of Rome's founding. 1 1 Quote

airhead1983 Posted September 16, 2024 · Member Author Posted September 16, 2024 Thanks so much, everyone! Could the counter mark be an owl, @Ryro? 🦉 😃 Thanks, @Heliodromus for the cool information about the elephant! I need to invest in a better magnifier and light so I can see details better. It’s really exciting to post again! I’m always reading posts on the forum. My job gives me lots of downtime, so, that helps a lot. I also do a lot of window shopping on vcoins and ma-shops too. Lol. Don’t tell my grandmother, who also happens to be my boss. 🤪 Im trying to encourage my food bank boss (not my grandma) to get into ancient coins. I’d like to get her an ancient at some point, spark the flame of the infinite coolness of ancient coins collecting. 😎 🔥 I’m hoping my new coin will be in by the end of the week. I can’t wait! Thanks, again, for everything! You are all Bosses! 😎 Keep on collecting! Erin 2 1 1 Quote
