I have been fortunate enough to acquire several sets of these errors. The first is a die match set of multi-struck (double struck) antoniniani of Gordian III. Specimen 01 Authority: Gordian III (Augustus 238 – 244 AD) Denomination: AR Antoninianus Mint: Antioch (239 AD) Size: 21.3 mm x 21.8 mm Weight: 3.78 g Obverse: IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right Reverse: (Overtype) (P M) TR P, Providentia standing left, holding globe and scepter (Undertype) (P M TR P) II COS PP, (Traces of the bottom of Providentia double struck, shift) References: RIC IV, Part iii, 172 (b) Specimen 02 Authority: Gordian III (Augustus 238 – 244 AD) Denomination: AR Antoninianus Mint: Antioch (239 AD) Size: 23.7 mm x 22.4 mm (elliptical) Weight: 4.81 g Obverse: IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right (traces of double struck inscription) Reverse: (Overtype) P M TR P II COS PP, Providentia standing left, holding globe and scepter (Undertype) P M TR, (Traces of the bottom of Providentia double struck shift) References: RIC IV, Part iii, 172 (b) The second is a die match set of multi-struck (double struck) bronzes of Philip II. Specimen 01 + 02 Province, City - Reign: Mesopotamia, Nisibis - Philip II Denomination: AE 26 Mint: Nisibis (247 – 249 AD) Size: 26.0 mm Obverse: AYTOK K M IOVΛI ΦΙΛΙΠΠOC CЄB, Radiate and cuirassed bust of Philip II left, seen from front, wearing balteus Reverse: IOY CЄΠ ΚΟΛΩ ΝЄIBI MHT, Temple with arched pediment and four columns enclosing draped, veiled and turreted Tyche seated facing with ram leaping right above her; below river god swimming right; (double struck, shift) References: BMCG 27. 122. 22-23 (plate XVII, 11) 5 1 Quote
