Bonshaw Posted August 27, 2024 · Supporter Posted August 27, 2024 (edited) Hello, Friends, My knowledge of the coins of Alexander the Great is quite limited, and I wonder if the experts here might help in an identification. A good friend of mine, who is Greek, received these cufflinks from his father. He guesses they were manufactured before 1940. I have photos of the coin fronts, and also the rear side of the coins (partially occluded by the cufflink mount). I don't know the weight, but the diameter is ~17 mm. Here is the obverse: And the reverse: Any help in identifying would be greatly appreciated. The sentimental value of the cufflinks is high for my friend, I'm interested in any details about the coins that might enrich that. Thanks! Edited August 27, 2024 by Bonshaw 5 1 Quote
shanxi Posted August 27, 2024 · Supporter Posted August 27, 2024 (edited) There are hundreds of variations. The monogram on the left reverse, below the throne, appears to be NO. Therefore it could be from Lampsakos. One of these: https://numismatics.org/pella/results?q=symbol_rev_beneathThrone_facet:"http://numismatics.org/symbolimages/pella/monogram.price.917.svg|Price Monogram 917" For the other, look for the monogram under the throne here: https://numismatics.org/pella/symbols? There are only 1207 symbols and monograms One possibilty is Kolophon, but there might be others: https://numismatics.org/pella/symbol/monogram.price.634 Edited August 27, 2024 by shanxi 8 1 Quote
