Check out this monster. It’s so big I can’t even find a holder to properly store it.

Here it is in my hand for scale

Germany, Prince-Bisphoric of Münster, Christopher Bernhard von Galen, as Prince-bishop of Münster 1650-1678 AD, Silver ‘broad’ Thaler (28.98g, 48mm) dated MDCLXI (1661 AD). Obverse: Helmeted Coat of Arms of Christopher Bernhard von Galen, legend around, “PROTECTOR· MEVS· ET· IN· IPSO· SPERAVI· QVI· SVBDIT· POPVLVM· MEVM· SVB· ME· Psal 143”. Reverse: Nimbate and robed half-length figure of Saint Paul facing forward, holding sword and resting within the clouds, city scene of Münster below; “S· PAVL PATRON” above, “MONAST· WESTPH AD: OBED· REDVC TVM” in inner exergue, border and outer legend surrounds, “à Rmo. CELsmo. DD. CHRISTOPH· BERN· EPo. ET· PRINCIPE·MONAST· Ao. MDCLXI”. KM-75; Davenport-5603. A very honest example – evenly worn and complete in design, often seen with problems due to its broad flan. Very Fine.

Mexico had some lovely 40mm coins. Here is a .900 silver from 1947

I love this Mexican coin series. I have collected most of the silver pesos from 1947 and into the 70s, such beautiful designs and most really affordable.

How about these two bad boys I added to my collection a while back. (Sorry for the poor pictures it’s all I have).

Here’s a test in world crowns, let’s see if anyone on this forum knows what a 47 Maple Leaf and a 48 means.

Hi, Egry ... ummm, I know what a 1947 Maple Leaf is all about ... but I have the 50 cent pieces, rather than your sweet 1 dollar coins

NOTE: I don't have the curved-7 version (and sadly, my straight-7 coin is harshly toned/oxidized ... sigh)

Commemorative issue: Death of August II.
Composition: Silver
Weight: 28.57 g

Is that the one with the tree and skulll? I can’t seem to find one when I look it up. Is it rare?

I feel like I need to find one, it’s like love at first sight.

I would call it scarce. There is one listed here:

It's a bit nicer than mine but then I didn't pay that much either.

I have some less attractive specimens, defaced for political reasons.

Napoléon III Five Francs, 1870

image.png.1b0865461efc92b85e5c8b398dcab8cf.png

Paris. Silver, 36mm, 24.84g. Laureate head left, mintmark A; SEDAN stamped on neck. Crowned and mantled coat-of-arms within collar; behind, scepter and Hand of Justice crossed in saltire (VG 739; cf Collignon, Guerre p. 56 note). Napoléon III did so badly in the 1870 war against the Prussians, the French took enmasse to defacing his coins with ever more insulting slogans and costumes, before (and after) deposing him.

Ferdinand II of Bourbon One Hundred and Twenty Grana, 1841

image.png.5726b6f340bef65d3f34f5d845263b94.png

Napoli. Silver, 37mm, 27.12g. Young bearded head to right, date below; FERDINANDVS II. DEI GRATIA REX; Star engraved on face. Crowned shield of 6-fold arms, with central shield, value G.120 below; REGNI VTR. SIC. ET HIER. Edge: PROVIDENCIA OPTIMI PRINCIPIS + (KM 346; cf MIR (Naples) 501/1). Defaced with the Star of Italy in the run up to the uprisings of 1848. The star represented the destiny of Italy and was a symbol of Italian unification, of which Ferdinand II was an opponent.
