Vel Saties Posted June 9 · Member Posted June 9 Very passionate about Frederick Roger of Hohenstaufen (Frederick II to his friends), my grandfather put together a dignified collection of coins relating to the "stupor mundi" in the period before the Second World War. Composed mainly of the coinage of Sicily and of the Italian municipalities that minted money in the name of Frederick II by virtue of imperial concessions, this group of coins was passed to my father who, finally, decided to give them to his almost sixty-year-old eldest son (me), still too young in his opinion for these things. I hadn't seen these coins for at least 25 years and I noticed that the coins minted in the royal mints of the Germanic area were missing. Here, therefore, is my very first medieval acquisition aimed at expanding my grandfather's almost century-old collection. This is a pfenning bracteate from the royal mint of Ulm Lake Constance area Obv. crowned bust of king facing, branch to l., tower to r. Rev: incuse design (bracteate). 21mm, 0,41gr. Ref: Cahn 186 (Lindau) Berger 2598-9; Bonhoff 1863. 9 1 Quote
