Furryfrog02 Posted November 11 · Supporter Share Posted November 11 Took a short trip to the Baltimore Whitman show yesterday and had a pretty good time. I went in search of some interesting pieces and a gift for my Secret Saturnalia giftee. I managed to find both. Harlan J. Berk had his pick bin this time and I pulled 8 coins (well 7 and a Byzantine? lead seal) that were interesting to me. He was very kind and had many beautiful coins in cases that I was too afraid to ask to look at! There were several other great dealers who were incredibly friendly and had some really interesting coins. I picked a couple of other interesting coins from Tiber Numismatics and had a nice time chatting with David, the owner. He grew up not far from here and we had a good chat about a local pit beef place. 🙂 I also snagged a few world coins from a dealer for $1.50 a piece. Sadly, there weren't too many world pick bins this time around but I am happy with what I got. I looked at a few coins that are still missing from my US Type Set but they were all well out of my price range. They may forever remain empty. Here are some group shots of what I got from HJB and Tiber as well as the fun world coins I picked out. Thanks @Parthicus for saving something for me! 😛 Oh, I also managed to find my SS gift but that isn't pictured 🙂 20
Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted November 11 · Member Share Posted November 11 I'm assuming the Cyberman-looking piece in the middle is a pfennig? Sounds like you had a good time. I enjoy hearing about the different coin shows.

It should be a challenging identification.

CPK Posted November 11 · Supporter Share Posted November 11 Nice! I'd love to go to an actual show like that. I like that little Trajan provincial - got some nice eye appeal. Also the world coins, particularly that BEA 50c!

Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted November 11 · Member Share Posted November 11 Here's my similar one, with dealer's pic and wrong attribution: Attribution: Götz 10 a Steinhilber 137 Date: 1350-1390 AD Obverse: Facing bust between R-A Reverse: Two facing busts below pointed gables Size: 18.27 mm Weight: 0.92 grams Rarity: 5 Description: Oh nooooo! The inspiration for Mr. Bill of Saturday Night Live fame. Two scheming Sluggos on the reverse. I got help on correct ID here, but unfortunately I didn't write down who helped me: The corrected ID: Regensburg, anonymous joint episcopal and ducal issue, AR pfennig, c. 1315–1374 AD. Obv: Head of bishop within arcade. Rev: Heads of bishop and duke facing within double arcade. 17mm, 0.90g. Ref: Emmerig 248. The wrong attribution might head you in the right way. I remember seeing some similar things to yours when I poked around on acsearch. 2 1
Hrefn Posted November 12 · Supporter Share Posted November 12 I think @Nerosmyfavorite68’s coin is misidentified. It was probably struck in an old house in Paris, because the figure on the right of the reverse is obviously Madeline. 1
Ursus Posted November 13 · Supporter Share Posted November 13 (edited) Nice haul! I particularly like the two LRBs – the bug-eyed Constantius is quite charming. The Trajan provincial is a good find, too. On 11/11/2023 at 6:18 PM, Furryfrog02 said: It is. I have no idea where from besides the general area of Germany/Austria. It should be a challenging identification. @Nerosmyfavorite68 already pointed you into the right direction. More specifically, your coin is: Regensburg, anonymous joint episcopal and ducal issue, AR pfennig, c. 1315–1374 AD. Obv: Head of duke above merlons, between H-O. Rev: Heads of bishop and duke facing within double arcade. Ref: Emmerig 246. As usual with late medieval Vierschlagpfennige, the reverse on your coin is weakly struck.
