Furryfrog02 Posted July 22 · Supporter Share Posted July 22 I recently won this coin as an unidentified Roman provincial coin. I was able to ID it before I won it and thought it was pretty cool and seemed rather uncommon, so put in a bid in order to win. I won it for only $8.50. It arrived today and when I took it from the envelope, it was in one of those cardboard things that say "coin inside" except it was also in German. When I opened that up, it was in a Numismatik Lanz bag with weight, diameter, and what I'm assuming was a lot number. I've been looking around but I can't find it in any previous auctions. I was wondering if anyone who is better at me than researching could find it in a previous auction. I'm just curious. I'd love to have a bit of background on it. Anyways, here is the coin: VALERIAN AD 253-260 AE Hexassarion, 28mm/12.08g MINTED: CILICIA, Anazarbus, AD 253-260 OBVERSE: ΑΥΤ Κ Π ΛΙ ΟΥΑΛΕΡΙΑΝΟC CE, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. REVERSE: ANAZAPBOY / Γ Γ / ΕΤ ΒΟC / T A M K, Dionysos seated left, head right, on back of panther right with head reverted
Benefactor Phil Davis Posted July 23 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted July 23 Most likely from a Lanz Ebay sale, which won't be findable.

It seems like the seller I bought it from got it from them and never even took it from the Lanz shipping material.

Jared, If you’re very patient you could use the Coryssa database. It is mostly from Ebay sales, but it will be only efficient if the attribution was right and not part of a lot. Have fun. https://www.coryssa.org/index.php

Should have fun playing around with it 🙂
