Welp folks it’s only about a week away from Saint Patrick’s day. I mostly collect English coins from the time of the Celtic Britons til the modern day and Roman coins minted in western mints. Yet I’ve picked up a few Irish pieces, my favorite being this Irish farthing!C7E4098E-D1BB-47E8-8232-8A6AA1AAA17D.jpeg.46c8c34f14ed28cb6e7ec54976eade96.jpegFAC09449-4776-4348-BF7D-A800B3B411BB.jpeg.9503637017b7efc92c8f1931d6bd33d2.jpegfeel free to post your own Irish coins!

Not medieval, but I have a couple of Irish coins.

James I Lennox Type 5 Oval Irish Farthing, 1622-1625
image.png.64a750eeb58e8a27f736b04e6a76ed90.png
London Token House. Copper, 16-17mm, 0.58g, die axis 180°. Crown over crossed sceptres; • + IACO: D : G:  MAG: BRI(:) (Obverse 1); privy mark cross patée. Eagle-headed harp with 7 strings; FRA: ET HIB: REX+ • (S 2681; Everson Type 5 54b; Peck/BMC Type 4 113). Note the legends start at 7 o’clock on Irish farthings - otherwise they look much like the English farthings and use the same punches.

James II Small Size Gunmoney Halfcrown, May 1690
image.png.d678a78b2e89d1d547cf4bb1b696d779.png
Dublin. Bronze, 29mm, 11.08g. Laureate head left. Crown over sceptres in saltire (SCBC 6580B).

Love those copper farthings minted under James I and Charles! Very gun gun money as well. I need something of James ii as a slot filler.

@John Conduitt, that Gunmoney halfcrown is phenomenal.  I've never seen an example remotely like that.  ...I was just absently trawling for a representative one the other night.

@Redaz, I've never once seen an Edward I farthing, either.  Remarkable.  Don't have pics of my one Dublin penny, but other folks here have better ones, anyway.  Ditto with my Henry III long cross cut half.  Rats.  This is what there is from here --both reposts.

Sihtric Silkbeard, first type imitating AEthelred's Long Crosses.  Replete with peck marks, holes for a brooch, and that wild double strike that gives Sihtric two left eyes.  Finding this was an Event; the various weirdnesses didn't make me blink.  Did an OP on it, either here or in the other forum.

King John, the commonest type, as king, already using the triangle.  Yep, the Irish issues are the only ones in John's name (right, vs. the immobilizations of Henry II); same as Richard's deniers and oboles of Poitou and Bordeaux /Aquitaine.

'Brooch' for 'broach' -wish it rhymed with 'ouch.'
