@Cordobaand @DonnaML re when is Nomos live etc, this is what they emailed me.

Yes, once again, in fact, for the fifteenth time, Nomos will be presenting a Fixed Price List containing a very select group of Celtic, Greek, Roman and Byzantine Coins at the NYINC in January! These fine coins, including many pieces from famous collections of the past, like those of BCD, C. S. Bement, V. M. Brand, Bryn Mawr College, R. Burrage, Chandon de Briailles, Fenerly Bey, M. Lafaille, R. C. Lockett, V. Luneau, E. Milas, Sir H. Montagu, H. de Nanteuil, R. Peyrefitte, G. Philipsen, A. Rhousopoulos, Vicomte L. de Sartiges, E. P. Warren, Consul E. Weber, and Sir H. Weber, are all very worthy of going into one of the great collections of today!

This list will go live on our website beginning at 10AM EST-4PM/16 CET on 12 January, when they will also be on display at our Table 307 at the NYINC. Coins be ordered in person or through our webshop portal.

The Nomos Fixed Price List, with 100 lots, went live a little more than two hours ago. I think the prices are generally quite high, but not as astonishingly high as the Leu FPL. Although there are a few that I don't really understand, such as Lots 87 (a Divus Antoninus Pius sestertius with a huge flan crack for CHF 5,000) and 88 (a Philip II antoninianus with a not-very-interesting Felicitas reverse for CHF 500).

28 of the 100 have sold already (not those two), so obviously there are plenty of people who view the prices as generally reasonable.

I bought one lot (I won't identify it until I actually have it) and will ask if I can pick it up when I'm there. Even though when I paid online, I was charged for shipping and insurance! (The only other option given was to pick the lot up at the Nomos office in Switzerland, which entailed a rather hefty VAT charge.) Hopefully they'll let me take it with me, and refund the CHF 35 I was charged for shipping and insurance.

I agree with @DonnaML that Nomos was not as bad as Leu in $ cost - and they had a good selection of decent Greek coins. They were selling like hotcakes when I was there.

What  was interesting to me when at their table was how they coped with people there wanting to buy a given coin at the same time as someone online trying to do the same!

I greatly appreciate the advice of Forum members to go today. It was well-worth the extra cost to me (in entrance fee) and if this was a quiet day then I’d hate to see it busy!

Any picture of the venue and dealer tables anyone is taking?

Would love to see some!

Having seen a dealer get very angry at someone taking  general photos I didn’t dare.

One of my sons did get to hold an amazing Colosseum  coin though, courtesy of Aaron Berk. He let him take the photo!

Aside from in my dreams the Colosseum coin (where my boy may or may not have misunderstood the price which was quoted as xyz rather than xyz thousand as the former!) a couple of unusual Syracusean coins.

NAC has an incredible Sicilian for sale at 200k. Well worth a drool if you are there.

Did you happen to note what type/example this was - it sounds like quite the coin to just be available in stock. I'm dealing with a series of delayed flights so I won't be there until tomorrow.

Can someone explain why a dealer would find taking pictures of a bourse floor to be an issue?  Seems unreasonable but maybe I’m missing something.  (I’m talking general scene photos, not hovering over or blocking of focusing on the dealer or his case — that merits asking permission.)

This guy was saying it was a security risk because someone could zoom in and see what he had for sale and target him for theft. There was quite a debate going on about this view. Dealer said he had stock there that was not shown online etc…

On one hand I get it — showing material at shows does involve real security risks.  On the other hand, if someone wanted to get a sense of what this or any dealer had, they could walk into the show and get a REALLY good look.  I’m not sure what the extra risk from a photo once you’ve chosen to set up in a public space.  Are other dealers this sensitive about the issue?  (Definitely and respectfully don’t want to be getting dealers angry.)

This doesn't make much sense to me. Unless someone is directly photographing a tray, a photo of the bourse or part of it, intended to show the crowd -- especially a long shot from the end of an aisle or one side of the room -- isn't going to show individual coins no matter how much someone zooms in. The angle would be all wrong. Look at @savitale's photos in the other thread.

Agreed! It made little sense to most  people. Though the Chicago  ANA coin theft incident was being used as an attempt to rally to his cause too. Maybe he was affected there.

Who knows. All I wanted to do was look at coins 😀

I wasn't aware of a theft incident at Chicago ANA - I was at that show on Saturday but didn't hear anything. What happened?

@jfp7375I don't  know what he was referring to but assume this-

Illinois police are investigating the theft of a display case filled with Rolex watches and coins worth an estimated $500,000 US during the recent American Numismatic Association (ANA) World’s Fair of Money.

On Aug. 15, during the show’s setup in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Ill., several people without badges stole a dealer’s display case. As coin shows returned and coin stores reopened following the pandemic, organized groups have targeted U.S. dealers with thefts resulting in substantial losses.

“The ANA’s board of governors will convene a series of special meetings to conduct a thorough evaluation of the association’s security protocols and take steps to address the emerging threats to the numismatic community’s property and physical safety,” said ANA President Ralph Ross. “We look forward to collaborating with law enforcement, security specialists and members of our numismatic community for purposes of minimizing risks in our community.”

To see a full list of the stolen watches and coins, visit the Numismatic Crime Information Center website at bit.ly/3xkAY5c.

@DonnaML Apparently there was a theft there. $100k of stuff taken.  Sounds a bit odd, and  not related to photos I'm sure.

Their Table was no. 506, in the Gallery right next to the top of the stairs from the lobby, across from CNG's tables. As I recall, there was a security guard right at the top of the stairs all afternoon on Thursday. If this dealer really departed and their inventory was stolen before the show closed at 7 pm, how is it possible that nobody noticed the thief? On the other hand, if they really didn't leave until after the show closed at 7, I find it hard to believe that there was still public access to the stairs, without any security. It's all a mystery to me
