Benefactor DonnaML Posted March 26, 2023 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted March 26, 2023 (edited) Did anyone besides me order any of the new Charles III Proof coins from the Royal Mint back at the beginning of October 2022? The two I ordered, on October 6, finally arrived in the mail yesterday after more than 5 1/2 months. The Royal Mint said at the outset that it might take up to 16 weeks, so I was expecting it to take a while, but that was a long wait! The AR Proof 5 GBP Crown: The description of the design: The specifications: The COA: The AR Proof 50p coin: The description of the design: As the description indicates, the reverse design is based on the reverse of the 1953 Elizabeth II coronation crown: The specifications: The COA: Finally, from the accompanying booklets, the history of all the different Elizabeth II coin portraits together with Charles III's portrait. My favorite of Elizabeth's portraits is probably the Arnold Machin one. Edited March 26, 2023 by DonnaML
Benefactor DonnaML Posted March 28, 2023 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted March 28, 2023 I also ordered a Charles III proof half-sovereign a while ago, to keep up my collection of "at least one gold coin for each British king or queen," which currently goes back to George I, plus I have a William III half-guinea. (I once also had Anne, William & Mary, James II, Charles II, Charles I, James I, and Elizabeth I in gold, but sold them years ago.) Anyway, I am hoping that it won't take nearly as long to arrive as the coins I ordered back in October.
Benefactor DonnaML Posted March 29, 2023 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted March 29, 2023 I don't believe that anyone has yet posted any Euro coins since we arrived at the 21st century, which brings to mind a few questions for those of you who live in EU countries that use the Euro. Does any of you who collects World coins include Euro coins in your collection? If so, which interests you more: Euro coins from your country, or coins issued by your country before the adoption of the Euro? Which are more popular in general among coin collectors in your country? And do you think the adoption of the Euro, whatever its other merits or drawbacks, has been a net positive for coin collecting in your country and/or in Europe overall? I know that there must be people who collect Euros, because every time I look at websites that sell European coin supplies (Lindner, Leuchtturm, etc.), there seem to be hundreds of different coin boxes, trays, plastic holders, notebooks, binders, etc. designed to hold Euros. Benefactor DonnaML Posted March 29, 2023 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted March 29, 2023 Not counting a pocketful of change picked up in Italy, Germany, and France over the last 20 years, this 2002 set is the only Euro-related item I've ever bought -- where and why, I don't remember:

I don't collect them but there are now 24 countries minting Euros and it is fun to find always new reverse types in your purse. But that's also the problem for collectors. Too many new types each year including rare types from e.g. the Vatican or Monaco. Edited March 30, 2023 by shanxi
