R is for Roman Sicily

This coin is a far cry from the magnificent coinage produced in the region starting in the later half of the sixth century BC  In fact it is downright ugly. But paraphrase Josef Stalin ... really ugly does have a charm all of its own. This coin was likely minted in response to needs caused by the civil war between Sextus Pompey and Octavian.
