CPK Posted October 15, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted October 15, 2022 530 years ago last Monday, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue and discovered the New World. It was a staggering achievement of navigation, seamanship, and courage, and changed the course of world history. Post your Columbus-related coins in commemoration! Here is one which I recently acquired, a massive silver coin featuring Columbus's flagship the Santa Maria: 11 1

dougsmit Posted October 15, 2022 · Member Share Posted October 15, 2022 This AE blanca was issued by Ferdinand and Isabella who financed the voyage but, I believe I recall reading somewhere, these were issued after 1492 so none would have been on board.

CPK Posted October 15, 2022 · Supporter Author Share Posted October 15, 2022 @shanxi It's astonishing how small those vessels actually were, especially when you think of sailing across the Atlantic in one of them!

Can't really say you discovered something when someone else was already there! I usually say re-discovered the New World (even if you look at it from the western point of view, the vikings landed there even earlier). However, the re-discovery did change the course of Western civilization as well as the existing American civilization... TheTrachyEnjoyer Posted October 16, 2022 · Member Share Posted October 16, 2022 Legendary explorer, noble figure! Christopher Colombus has been wrongly slandered as of recently. Happy (belated) Colombus day! 2
