Q for Qing Dynasty

c365g.jpg.b8a276adad403aae2a0106239671ffe2.jpg

Cgina, Qing Dynasty

Emperor: Kang Xi, 康熙
Lohan Cash
Board of Revenue
Obv: 康熙通寶, Kāng Xī Tōng Bǎo
Rev: Boo Chiowan
Year: 1713
Material: AE, 4.55g, 26mm
Literature: Hartill 22.91, p1443
Note: This coin was cast to commemorate Kang Xi's 60th birthday. The spelling of the Xi differs from all other Kang Xi coins due to the missing dash on the left. The veneration of the emperor, the connection to his birthday and the rumor that the coins should contain gold, led to the fact that the actually simple cash coins got amulet character, and were carried as such until the 20th century.

To paraphrase Shakespeare, Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your R's.

Romulus, Rome, Remus, Richard I, II and III, Rufus to name but a few.

Don't be reticent, re-live your recent and not so recent collecting raids. Be they radiant, remarkable, rare or rewarding, post 'em now.
