  1. Hello, this coin was minted in the Augsburg Imperial Mint. At that time, this mint was leased to Eberhard IV von Eppstein-Königstein. Eberhard IV was not a relative of the House of Habsburg but came from the House of Eppstein.

  2. The specific gravity is within the normal range how you write. I can't see any signs of plating on the photos either.

I don't see why it shouldn't be a hybrid (mule) from the official roman mint. What else should it be, congratulations. 🙂

I personally wouldn’t pay $750 for that coin, the cos XIIII coin at the same sale  was great, but at $500 it was still expensive

O.K. Two collectors, two opinions, why not. The entire sale contains high-grade rarities for witch

special collectors are happy to pay the asking prices. With the vast majority of pieces, it is not about condition but about rarity.

  4. Hello,

defenitely the last one, when I collect the coins of "Otho" !

The first one is common but the last one is very rare.

I myself immediately bought 12 pieces from the Flavians on Thursday.

I can't speak for the other types but the Flavier on offer were almost cheap.

Example: https://www.hjbltd.com/#!/inventory/item-detail/ancient-coins/102800?fromBbs=224th Buy Or Bid Sale

RIC II 1² Domitian 324 (R2 / very few examples known). And this piece is the RIC plate-coin.

    750$ ... I bought it immediately.

  5. Hello Julius Germanicus,

Originals from the same pair of dies only confirm the possibility that these may have served as a mould.

Künker / Osnabrück have a field service in Hamburg: https://www.kuenker.de/de/kontakt/standorte-und-partner/partner-filiale-hamburg

There is also the option of sending the coin to ngc for grading (~80€).

If ngc refuses to encapsulate the piece, you are safe ... .

It is simply not possible to say whether this piece is real or fake based on photos.

  6. Hello Julius Germanicus,

the patina is important for identifying counterfeits in non-ferrous metals.

However, this coin was chemically and / or electrolytically cleaned down to the bar metal.

Therefore it is difficult to identify a fake from photos alone.

If you are convinced of the authenticity of this coin. all is well.

Otherwise i would recommend you to present the piece to a specialist retailer.

In Hamburg / Germany that would be for example:

    Auktionshaus Tietjen+Co oHg
    Hofweg 14
    22085 Hamburg

  7. Hello Julius Germanicus,

if you are not the original buyer of this coin (07/2022), then the coin was returned to the ebay dealer.

The Problem is that this piece is cleaned down to the bare metal. There are really no residue of patina

visible anymore. The piece considered suspicious in the German Forum and probably represents an

    old cast.

The RIC II 1² Domitian 351 (C) type is generally common and i wouldn't take any chances with it !

  8. Unfortunately, most collectors nowadays rate condition higher than rarity.

I have only one coin from that fourth issue with IMP III TR POT II COS II

  9. Hello,

perhaps the coins overlap in the sequence of these issues in RIC II 1² ?

On this coin Domitian "is" already AVG, IMP, TR P and COS VII but not DES VIII, P P and PONT.

Congrats on the coin David Atherton ! I had seen it too and almost bid on it too ...

  10. Hello Kaleun96,

you are absolutely right. Ring lights can of course be used. The problem is that Prieure de Sion's ring light is permanently installed in his light tent. He only has vertical light from above. As a result, he can only change the angle by angling the coin himself. Maybe it will help him to mask off a part of the ring light.
