  9. I bought the coin below in 2013 from a seller in France for less than $5...the shipping was more expensive than the coin. seller's photo
  10. If you collect certain series, you pay what you have to. For the Maximianus, the bust type is not in RIC and the only example I have seen. It is also the nicest CONSERVATOR in my collection. Of course, if you only collect one of each Emperor, you have much more financial flexibility. https://www.constantinethegreatcoins.com/CONSERVATOR/
  11. y'all don't understand overpaying until you do this 1200 eur the auction company even listed this one as an auction highlight (bottom right) or this one 1500 eur 650 pounds 440 pounds ...and I could go on and on.

  13. Constantine had a monetary reform in 318; with the new VLPP containing 4% silver; double the IOVI coinage. While you do find IOVI overstruck, most were melted down and struck as VLPP's. I published my small study of unofficial VLPP's in which I surmised that they would turn out to be about 2% silver. https://www.constantinethegreatcoins.com/barb2/ two more overstrikes-- a Constantine and Licinius turned into VLPP's
  14. possibly TEMPORVM FELICITAS "happy times"
  15. I know of three other examples, including this one I sold in 2018. here is one of the others https://www.cen-numismatique.com/a-new-bronze-of-valens-for-antioch-to-378-apr-j-c-by-renato-campo/
  16. Sure it could be an unofficial issue. It could also be clogged dies/ weak strike. Notice that most of VOTIS XX is also missing; but some is there; which indicates clogged dies/ weak strike.
  17. The Diocletian is from Ticinum

  21. I am now in the Crusader bowl cut camp. I looked at all the Tancred examples on acsearch and there were a lot. Sometimes it is not very clear but other times it is definitely just a poor haircut. Of course, depending on whether the same thing is being engraved each time. You can often see what looks like a decoration over his head. Here are some of the better examples-- the best for last--
