  1. Congratulations on your purchase. It looks like the Greek letter koppa just below Pegasus's leg, so I believe you do have a coin from the city of Corinth.
  2. Actually, I was thanking all who replied. Whether or not a response helps me, I do appreciate anyone who takes the time to try and give me advice. So, thanks all.
  3. I appreciate your responses. What I really need is to hear from someone in the US who has recently consigned coins to an auction house in Europe. If it were to Italy or San Marino, even better. Were you able to get your shipment insured for a reasonable amount? What shipping company did you use? Were you responsible for any custom's charges? Hope someone can give me some advice.
  4. I am considering consigning some coins to an auction house in San Marino. Well, they will actually go through Italy. I have never sent coins to an auction house outside of the US, and I am not quite sure about the customs requirements. I need them insured for $10,000. Any suggestions from those who have some experience with overseas shipping? Any help will be appreciated.
  5. There is an interesting article on Galla Placidia in the latest January/February issue of the Smithsonian magazine that can be found at https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/misunderstood-roman-empress-willed-way-to-top-180981294/. Sorry but the ads come with it.
  6. I recently purchased an Athens owl tetradrachm. When I had the silver content checked, it came out at 92+%. I always thought that the owls were almost pure silver, so does this seem to be low for a genuine owl?
  7. I bid on three and lost out on three. My problem with Lansky is that a bidder has no idea if a bid placed is in the running or not; they give you no access to what the current bid is. I would have bid higher on one coin had I known how close I was to the winning bid, but I refuse to bid blind. Until Lansky and the other auction houses who do not post up to date winning bids, I will continue not to bid very boldly. They are really doing themselves and their consignors a disservice by not actually extracting the highest bid possible.
  8. But the usual weight of an owl is in the 17.21 range. I've found none over 17.33.
  9. I won an owl in the last Numismatik Naumann auction that seems to be overweight to me. It was advertised to weigh 17.51 grams but weighs 17.47 grams on my scale. My suspicion is that it may be an eastern imitation owl. Do any of you have an owl that is overweight like this? The picture is below.
  10. Lansky's current address is given as being in Serbia. Ed, your thread was helpful. Thank you.
  11. I just placed a bid through biddr for a coin listed with Lansky located in Serbia. Has anyone dealt with them before? Has anyone had any problems with the coins they offer? I should have checked Lansky's location before bidding but didn't. It's their auction #5, so I figured they had been around long enough to get some feedback. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. I recently opened a new email account to handle all my contacts with coin related issues because I had a previous problem with emails not going through or being received by some European recipients. Well, I purchased a coin from Numismatik-Naumann in their last auction, but I was unable to get a response from them using my new email account. I assumed that they just didn't recognize the account and perhaps considered it spam. I contacted biddr to see if they could pass my new email address on to NN, so I could continue with the completion of my purchase. I got an immediate response from Sandro Kopp at biddr that he had passed my message on to NN. Shortly after that I was able finalize my payment and complete my purchase. My thanks really go out to biddr and Sandro for taking the time and effort to help me out. I am sure that I will be placing most of my auction bids through them in the future.
  13. Nice coin and really nice pictures.
  14. Thanks, Andrew. I don't think I would have noticed it.
